line Vows

Do you take vows seriously?

Many Christians do not. While most will indeed repeat what the minister says during their wedding ceremony; there seems to be few who comprehend how filled our lives actually are with promissory oaths and vows, and even less who consider the solemn weightiness of this fact.

If more Christians did take vows seriously, they would speak the truth, keep their promises, remain faithful to their spouses, honor their contractual agreements, and maintain life-long membership in their local churches (even if these things turn out to be personally hurtful to them).

God calls you to take vows seriously:

For it is written, “Lord, who may abide in your tabernacle?  Who may dwell in your holy hill? … he who swears to his own hurt and does not change” and “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools.  Pay what you have vowed — Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.” (Psalm 15 and Ecc. 5:4-5)
